Orientation Day 2:

In the morning we were very grateful to have Dana Thompson from the Ryerson Library, Pavy Lazare and Georgi Alishand from ARIDO and Joan Shaw from the RSID Internship office come to speak to us about their respective services. A big thank you to each them for taking the time to speak with us!

Don't forget to sign up to be a Student Member at ARIDO (it's free and a great way to stay informed about the industry): http://www.arido.ca/english/membership/membership-categories.html#Student

In the afternoon we visited the AGO to see the Ai Weiwei show (http://www.ago.net/aiweiwei/). If you're interested in learning more about him, watch his documentary "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry", available on Netflix (http://aiweiweineversorry.com).

We then split into four groups and visited the following firms:

Figure 3 (http://figure3.com)
Mason Studio (http://www.mason-studio.com)
Yabu Pushelberg (http://www.yabupushelberg.com)
Daniel Johnson Architect Inc. (http://www.johnsonnorbraten.com/daniel.php)

Thank you to all the representatives from these firms who took the time to share their work, experiences and advice with us!

Orientation Day 1:

A big thank you to everyone who showed up and participated in our first day of Orientation! The Studio was alive with energy for the first time all summer and it feels good to be back to normal. Thank you, Professor Furman for planning today's events and Stephanie and Mimi for all their help!

Thank you to Kravet/Lee Jofa for inviting us to their beautiful showroom and giving us a comprehensive tour of e-designtrade.com :) This information will be very helpful come later in the year for Vertical Studio in second semester. See more here: http://www.e-designtrade.com/login.asp, here: http://www.kravetcanada.com and here: http://www.leejofa.com/default.htm.

Thank you to the ROM for being the ROM and introducing us to Sebastiano Salgado's photography and more! What an inspiring photographer...

Thank you to all the artists at the Harbourfront Centre for sharing their creative space with us, as well as some insight into their Residency Program. The glass blowing, textile work, pottery sculpting and metal work are all very inspiring! See more here: http://www.harbourfrontcentre.com.

Also at the Harbourfront Centre, we were fortunate enough to see some of Professor Taymoore Balbaa's work from Atelier3AM on display. We are so lucky to have such talented professors at our school. See more here: http://atelier3am.com.

Thank you guys and looking forward to seeing you tomorrow :):)

See you tomorrow, first years :)

Tomorrow morning the sun will be rising at 6:35 a.m... While studying at RSID, you will soon learn how important it is to know the time and location of the sunrise and sunset. For now, enjoy your last sleep before you need to start thinking about such silly things ;) See you tomorrow morning, sleepyheads!

Xoxo,

Your RSID Studio Life Committee
